Very rare and original, ca1905 Pre-Prohibition, Barrel-Shaped Stoneware Advertising Beer Stein / Mug issued and distributed by the Royal Brewing Company of Kansas City, Missouri advertising their “Royal Beer”.
This outstanding Advertising Beer Mug / Stein is shaped like a barrel and measures approx. 4” tall and 2 1/2” in diameter at the base. The Mug features the Trade Mark of the Royal Brewing Company as well as text that reads “Royal Beer”. The...re is text on the back of the Mug that reads “A man never realizes how much he admires blondes until he marries a brunette” (Tom ducks to avoid rotten vegetables thrown at his head by the many awesome women who regularly follow our weekly eBay auctions). The only markings on the bottom of the Mug is the number “10”.
The Weston Brewing Company was first established in 1842 by German immigrant John Georgian. Georgian brought the tradition of lager brewing with him when he settled in Weston. The brewery was designed to utilize ice from the river during winter and lagering cellars dug deep into the ground to create ideal conditions for his beer which needed to be stored below 60 degrees for more than six weeks. The Weston Brewing Company became one of the first lager breweries in the United States. In 1901 the Weston Brewing Company was incorporated as the Royal Brewing Company of Kansas City, Missouri. The Company continued operation until 1919 when it was shuttered as a result of National Prohibition.
This rare and very attractive, Pre-Prohibition Stoneware Advertising Beer Stein is in very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, physical damage or repairs of any kind. The ground stoneware is clean with no staining or discoloration. There is some light wear to the transfer decoration as well as wear to the gold gilt on the raised barrel straps as can be seen in the scans below.
