Wonderful early Eskimo toggle harpoon head. This harpoon head would have been used to hunt, among other things Seals, Beluga and Bowhead whales in Bering sea region. Toggling harpoon heads have been found dating back to 700 BC in the Bearing strait (Remarkable to think that Westerners were still using antiquated fixed head designs into the late 19th century!). This early surviver is pitted and discoloured with age and exposure to the elements but is still here to tell the tale. A remar...kable piece of history.Length: Approximately 3"
