BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
1999 BMW 540i - 6 speed
NICE Az car , well maintained and kept over the yrs.
Super rare manual car . Paint looks to be al...l factory
Like most BMWs like this, its really been well taken
care of both inside and out. That being said, its still been
a driver most of its life and Az has done some drying to
the factory leather, which could possibly be restored with
a little work. Drivetrain wise, this cars been well taken care.
The motor is great. Just recently it started making some
noise under the valve covers, which has been determined to
be the timing chain guides being worn. Not unusual for these
motors with 150k on them, but it would need to be addressed if you where going to keep it on the road as a
daily driver. My BMW mechanic suggested keeping driving to
a minimum till they where fixed. The power and handling on a car this size is just amazing, youd never think its a 99 model to be honest. A few M updgrades done a few yrs ago
too. Nice unmolested example of one of BMWs finest.

DRIVETRAIN: the factory V8 matted to BMWs 6 speed gearbox
is the combination every Bmw driver looks for. Pop the hood and
you could almost eat off the engine. Its been well taken care
of its whole life and runs well. Just recently the timing chain guides
started making noise from wear I assume. Apparently its common on
these motors, but once repaired, you are good for many more yrs of
fine driving. You wouldnt want to drive it daily like it is, but its drives
fine and okay enough to cruise it around the block and onto a car
hauler no problem. The power these cars have is just smooth, flawless
and very amazing even by todays standards. Trans feels good and it
shifts just fine. Brakes are so amazing, they will almost put you thru
the windshield.
INTERIOR: take a look, for the most part the car is in really
nice shape inside, but does show some wear n tear on the factory
leather seats etc. Some dryness and fading, but nothing you wouldnt
expect on a 20 yr old car. As far as I can tell by driving it around
all the gizmos and switches etc are working from the drivers cockpit.
All original radio etc too, making it unmolested inside too.
PW car and has factory AC too. Zero rust on the floors and
or rockers. 159k on the odometer, shows original miles
on the AZ title. Remember its still needs some work here
too. Also a few of the wood trim pieces have come loose around
the dash. A few of the PWs are not working at the moment, so it
probably needs some regulators.
AC WORKS WELL, very COLD as do the power front seats do too.
EXTERIOR: the body and paint in very nice shape esp for
its age. It was garaged most of its life. It could probably use
a nice detail, buff and wax job to look even better. Headlights
work fine and all the gaps look like oem. Paint has a few flaws
from over the yrs, but nothing jumps out at you. Car has been
lowered with some M springs and I believe they are staggered
M series wheels too.
SUSPENSION: the suspension looks normal and very original
for its age. 4 wheel factory Disc all around is
all there and accounted for. I see normal wear n tear at best
and OEM components where they belong too. Thanks to being in
AZ and the desert climate, there are no
signs of any rust or rot under this car. Bilstein struts have been
installed with some M springs, a very tasteful and worth while
mod and car still handles like its on rails. This car puts a
smile on my face everytime I drive it. Brakes also feel amazing.
