For sale is an antique VICTORIAN CHILDREN'S TOY BLOCK SET probably from Germany c. 1890-1900. Coming during Thanksgiving week, this toy block set of lithograph images is right in season . . . it features a large TURKEY on the front lid of the box. That image is replicated on one side of the blocks inside, along with other animals including a reindeer, a goat, cows, donkeys, and horses. Besides the box cover art, there are five lithograph sheets included that depic...t the other five sides of each block.
All the designs are bright and intact, with several blocks having in-painting due to missing and chipping paper (often along the edges). The blocks each measure 1 5/8" wide . . . the six images comprise 6 x 4 blocks measuring a total of 10" x 6 3/4" in size. The blocks and lithograph sheets rest comfortably in the original lidded box that retains its original paper covering on all sides - with red/green/blue stars against a beige background. The canvas/fabric strip on the back, which served as a hinge for the box lid, is missing . . . and the front metal hook to close/lock the lid is also gone. The box itself measures 11 1/2" x 8".
This is a sweet early child's toy that would look so nice sitting under a Christmas tree this holiday season!
