IDED F.& I./REVOLUTIONARY WAR 1st.VIRGINIAREGIMENTS, BRONAUGH FAMILY TOMAHAWK, 1754/1776-79 & 81 This very fine quality Virginia style tomahawk wasused by the Bronaugh family when they served in the 1st. VirginiaRegiment in the French & Indian War & in the Revolutionary War.It was used in the French & Indian War byLieutenant William Bronaugh when he served under Colonel George Washington inthe 1st Virginia Regiment He fought at the Battle of Great Meadowson Jul...y 3, 1754, in what is now Farmington in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. It was then used by Henry Bronaugh.in the Revolutionary War when heserved in the 1st. Virginia from July 1776 to July 16, 1776/1779where he was rwounded at the Battle of Stony Point. Helater returned to General Washington’s army in Colonel Mercer’s VirginiaMilitia & fought at the Siege & Battle of Yorktown in September &October, 1781. This tomahawk is 15 7/8” at the wood handle with a 5 7/8” roundpoll iron head & a 3 5/8” blade that has a 2 7/8” cutting edge. . Itis in good condition with light/medium pitting & has a dark brown patina onthe head. The hand carved wood grip I do not believe to be original to the Revolutionary War but is VERY old.It was bought directly from the Bronaugh family & a certificate ofauthenticity.
