Original Description:
This stunning solid sterling silver bowl is by Mexican silver master Juventino Lopez Reyes. The Modernist bowl has an abstract curved shape, sort of like an artists palette, and stands on three conical tapered legs. The bowl measures 8" long x 4.5" wide and 4" high.Bowl weight is 255 grams.The bottom is marked with Reyes' beautiful hallmark ... JLR - STERLING 925. Some of the marks are not legible, but you can clearly read his initials, .925 & Sterling.Bowl was made ...circa 1950s/60s. Reyes opened his own workshop...Plateria Del Recreo, in 1935 in Mexico City. This bowl has some light surface scratches, easily buffed out, and gentle indent on the rim. Over all this bowl is in excellent vintage condition.This is an incredible example of mid-century MODERNIST design. Sculptural & Functional.Reyes is listed in 'The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks' by Bille Hougart.- 2006 Edition - Pages 163, 232, 253, 272. Also featured in Morrill "Silver Magazine" - "The Mark of One Mexican Silver Designer" May/June 1999 pages 28-31.
