Original Description:
This fine 18th c. carved and painted Norwegian mangle board (Mangletre) is signed SOD and dated ANO 1765 (on both sides of the handle). The exquisite original paint includes a deep red-brown on the chip carved star roundel top surface against a black chevron coarve background with red comma shaped decoration on black along the edges. The horse shaped handle (which is dovetailed into the base) appears to have an original coat of red paint with a subsequent coat of verdigris blue-green c...olor and a final coat of black paint. Each color has worn through to give a remarkable multi-colored patina. The mangle is in great original condition but with the horse is missing a bit of its nose (gone for many years) and the underside of the mangle has a network of cut marks (see photo).Stock Number SA2A-60
