A Rare, Large and Lovely Antique Late Victorian French or Austrian Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus) Feather Fan with Blonde Schildpatt Sticks dated to around 1890
Description
This beautiful, very large and rare French or Austrian fan is made of genuine blonde Schildpatt sticks and the highly iridescent blue and green feathers of the Himalayan monal (Lophophorus impejanus), also known as the Impeyan pheasant. I...t looks much better than I was able to show in the photos (the feathers reflect the light, so are difficult to photograph).
The fan measures approx. 12.75" long and 19.5" wide at its widest point. The measurements for this fan in centimeters are approx. 32 cm long and ca. 49 cm wide.
The fan is in overall good condition, but it has one repair and small flaws as follows: The lower tip of the left guardstick is missing, but this was repaired with a backing piece that also serves to repair a break in the same stick (see last photos, where all sides of this repair are shown). There is some loss of feathers (mostly on the top and bottom edge), but nothing very dramatic. What annoys me a bit, is that someone re-glued some loose feathers in the centre, but did not do it very well (see last photos). If one re-attaches feathers on a fan such as this, it must be done in the same order, as when it was first assembled. This is not difficult to do, but usually takes patience!
Despite the small flaws, this is still a very beautiful fan that will not disappoint!
Postage Packaging and postage to the UK via Registered and Tracked Airmail will cost £12.90, within Europe via Airmail £13.30 (15, 50 Euro), overseas via Airmail £14.20 (ca. US$18.80).
