Thank you for being here. I hope you are having a great day. The large photo measures approximately 19-3/4” x 15-7/8". It’sa heavier paper stock, but I am not sure how to properly describe it – the photographis flimsy but not fragile. I’ve been handling the photo with no problems. I’mhoping that you can get a good idea of the thickness in the eighth and maybeeleventh pics.This photo comes from a very good collection of NativeAmerican items, which is a different estate than th...e rest of the photos that Ihave listed this week.Offered unframed and as pictured.The photograph was by C. M. Bell (Charles Milton Bell), 1891. I’m not smart enough to know exactly how old this particular print of thephoto is. Does it date to the 1890’s? Or maybe the early 1900’s, I don’t know.It’s definitely old.I did some quick research, and I was only able to find oneother sold example, back in 2007. That particular example was a little largerand of better quality. The definition isn’t as great with mine, poorly defineddetails of their faces and whatnot. It also looks like the 2007 example was adifferent kind of paper, more fragile.Beneath their feet, the Copyright text on the left side andthe C. M. Bell text on the right side are both very faint, barely recognizable.I’m pretty sure that is an indication that this example is at least a generationor two down the line from the original. It kind of has that photo of a photolook.I’m trying my hardest to be negative, but as you can tell, Ireally don’t know much about this sort of thing. I just think it’s a greatphoto. I love looking at it, and I think you will as well, but I want you to behappy with your purchase, so I will continue on with some additional negativity…As is the case with every version of this photo, MajorGeorge Sword’s face is terribly blurry. And in this example of the photo, because of the poorer quality, most of the men’s faces to the top left cornerlook blurry, poorly defined and washed out. There are other quality concerns ofthat nature.Condition is definitely a concern as well. The photo isbadly worn, dulled, darkened and discolored. Terribly soiled, ugly blackening. Ithas an old attic, possibly soot type odor that I can easily recognize when Iput the photo to my nose. My fingers get a little dirty when handling the item.There’s a truly nasty amount of creasing, wrinkling, rippling, waviness, pressure marks and all that sort of wear. Some of the creasingand whatnot has led to superficial loss of the photo (white showing). There’s alarge area of white near Sword’s head. Another near Zaphier’s head, and lotsmore white showing throughout the creases and wrinkles. There are nail holesalong the edges, several of them, as if the item was once hung up like aposter. Maybe it was exposed to the environment at an exhibition or somethinglike that. The top edge has a 1/2” tear above P. T. Johnson’s head.The surface creasing really is quite ugly - very concerning, especially if you tilt the photo back and forth under a bright light.The old photograph is what it is, historically significant, quite interesting, but it does have major condition concerns, so I ask that youplease help me out by closely reviewing the provided pics to best judge whatyou are bidding on. It is no longer reasonable to ship a larger package by way of USPSParcel – it is now very close to the same price as Priority, which is why theshipping for this photo is so high. In order to absorb some of the cost, I willsubtract 30% from the shipping when I send the invoice, so if the shippingcalculator is showing $25, I will lower the cost to $17.50.
