DATEc. Circa 200 B.C. - 400 A.D.
The ancient Adena and Hopewell cultures created pipes in the images that they saw and experienced. Ancient cultures respected all that the Great Spirit created: animals, birds, people and nature. The Adena culture represents the same time frame as the Jaredite (1500 B.C. - 200 A.D. and the Hopewell culture (200 B.C. - 400 A.D.) parallels these time frames. Hopewell art is characterized by mirror symmetry. The human forms were rare depictions in Hopewell art. The Hopewell culture obtained steatite from the Rocky Mountains; however, the Hopewell culture had a vast trading infrastructure.
