Yupik Alaskan Handmade Lidded Basket Eskimo Dyed Seal Gut Grasses Native Artisan
Item History & Price
Originally purchased from the University of Alaska museum store for $420. Hand made by Florence George, a Yupik Inuit Eskimo from Kwigillingok, Alaska, a remote area in western Alaska with a population of about 300 people.
This hand made basket stands about 9" tall with the lid and is about 9" across at it's widest. It is made of native grasses ...and dyed seal guts. The diamond checkerboard design weave detail that is made with the seal gut has worn ( disintegrated?) in spots throughout the basket as noted in photos.
Comes with original tag from the museum.
Clean from non smoking home.
