Beautiful solid wood hand carved bull. The bull is in good condition with no visible cracks or chips in the wood. There is one possible flaw and that is a small hole in one of the horns (pictured). Now this may not actually be damage, I cannot personally tell but J. Pinal used real bull horns to make the horns on his pieces and it’s possible that was from the original material as there are no signs of the bull being dropped or mishandled. I do not know when exactly this piece was mad...e but I do know it was acquired in 1963. It is about 11 inches long and almost 6 inches tall.
*The paragraph below is history about the artist that I was able to find.*Jose Pinal (1913 – 1983) was a visual artist who was born in 1913 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was often referred to as the “Mexican Picasso.” At the 1939 World’s Fair in San Francisco, Pinal then 26 years old, was commissioned to demonstrate his art at the Mexican Pavilion. Pinal returned to his native Mexico, and established a workshop in Mexico City where he and his apprentices created original religious, contemporary, and abstract figures.
