Badger State Pendleton Woolen Mills Racine Tribute 1 Yuma Wisconsin Portland OR
Item History & Price
This Blanket is interesting as it takes you on a trip back through the history of the storied Pendleton Woolen Mills and their wonderful Indian Trade Blankets.
In the early 1900's the Mill was struggling for survival. The Racine &nb...sp; Woolen Mill of Racine Wisconsin was as they describe it "furiously" negotiating to buy the Mill in 1905. These negotiations came to nothing and the Pendleton Mill closed in 1908. In 1909 the mill reopened by Fanny Kay Bishop and her three sons. The Racine Woolen Mills had planned on increasing production 300%.
Racine was taken over by another company in 1915 and continued to make blankets to 1940 or so and closed their doors in 1951. Pendleton created a line of Tribute Blankets to honor the designs of Trade Blankets from the Racine Mills in 2010. The last blanket was released in 2017.
This beautiful Rare Blanket is labeled Badger State ( for Wisconsin) and is the very first in the Series of Racine Woolen Mills Tribute Blankets. It was issued in 2010 and is in excellent condition with no damage whatsoever. It was called Class "Y" in the Racine catalog and appears to have a stylized badger motif. In the later Schuler & Beeningholen Catalog titled 'Yuma". Like new condition. I would be happy to provide more images upon request.
