Original Description:
Dug pre civil war u s ordnance corps staff cuff button 15 mm.  The back is mostly gone but it seems that the backmark is Scovills & Co Waterbury which should date this example from 1840 to around 1851 when 2 piece ordnance buttons were introduced. A lot of these old ordnance buttons are found in civil war era sites and it is thought that the confederacy was using up old stock that they then issued to their troops.
The button seems to have been polished with a wire brush onc...e.  The back is mostly missing and there seems to be some old mounting glue left from the original person who found it.
