Civil War Relic Carved Face on a Musket Ball Found at Petersburg. Ifirst though this was a buck & ball with provisions for the threebuckshot, but closer examination showed it to be a soldier’s carving.The front side of the ball looks like it was embedded in wood, andmaybe the soldier carved it while it was embedded in log or board.You can also see striations that were designed to indicate theexpression of a face.
