You are bidding on a PostWWI, US Navy Good Conduct Medal. Themedal is used and is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. The ribbon is clean and lightly faded withsome wear along the edges. It is mounted on a wrapped brooch that has a pin androlling catch fastener that is in good working order. The medal is named (engraved) to; “JAMESHARRISON” who served aboard the “USS Pennsylvania” and is dated “ 6 MAY 1925”. The USSPennsylvania (BB-38)... was the lead ship of the Pennsylvania class of super-dreadnoughtbattleships built for the United States Navy in the 1910s. The ship was laid down at the Newport NewsShipbuilding and Dry-dock Company in October 1913, and launched in March 1915, then commissioned in June 1916. Equipped with an oil-burning propulsion system, the Pennsylvaniawas not sent to European waters during World War I, since the necessary fueloil was not as readily available as coal. Instead, she remained in Americanwaters. In 1918, the Pennsylvaniaescorted President Woodrow Wilson to France to take part in peacenegotiations. During the 1920s and 1930s, Pennsylvania served as the flagship of firstthe Atlantic Fleet, and after it was merged with the Pacific Fleet in1921. The Pennsylvaniawas present at Pearl Harbor on the morning of7 December 1941, and only suffered relatively minor damage in the attack. Duringthe Battle of Okinawa, she was torpedoed by a Japanese torpedo bomber and badlydamaged, forcing her to withdraw for repairs days before the end of the war.Due to the damage sustained the ship was allocated to the target fleet for theOperation Crossroads nuclear tests in 1946 at the Bikini Atoll. She survivedboth blasts, but was badly contaminated with radioactive fallout from thesecond test. The ship was ultimately scuttled in deep water off the atoll inFebruary 1948.
