GERMAN AUSTRIAN M17 M16 WW1 CAMO HELMET W/T LINER SYSTEM AND CHINSTRAP

DESCRIPTION
This is a beautiful WW1 original Austrian M17 helmet that was also used almost interchangeably by the Germans themselves especially during the closing years of the war. Helmet is your classic tri-color tortoise shell camo pattern and also features it's original white chromium tanned leather liner with pillow pads. One nice feature of this helmet is that the original chinstrap is still attached and in tact with brass buckles on each end. There are two small pea sized dents indic...ative of bullet or fragment hits around the top dome of the helmet that should also be mentioned both are relatively shallow and small.
The original helmet shell is clearly stamped on the bottom of the dome B12 and has a Q66 also stamped on the inside. This helmet came from the WW2 vet Joseph E. Wanless estate along with the other US items I'm selling here on eBay. While the helmet exhibits a lot of natural wear and a beautifully darkened pattina I do not believe the outside paint to be genuine and so I am selling this has a high level restoration. I have some other original WW1 camo helmets in my own personal collection and I just don't think this thing is the real deal in my own personal opinion. Many top collectors and authors feel that most WW1 camo painted helmets are in fact post war painted by local artisans right after 1918 for sale to returning US, French and Canadian soldiers as souvenirs from the war. So please make your bids assuming the paint to be post war.
