From the award citation:During the period of offensive battles in Eastern Prussia, in the neighborhood of Altenberg, comrade Kondratov was directly involved in combat operations of the detachment.
30-31 January 1945, the enemy counterattacked 4 times, supported with tanks and armored personnel carriers. Comrade Kondratov, located at the firing positions, inspired fighters and commanders and by personal example he inspired heroic feats; counterattacks were repealed.
31 January 1945, being in the direct firing line in the neighborhood of Gross Karschau, he personally participated in repealing enemy counterattack.
