Mabie Todd Swan New York 192/94 Blue Celluloid Fountain Pen 1917 to 1920. 14K F Flex Nib. Mint . Just serviced with new Ink Sac. Works and writes as when new. ZERO Cracks, Splits or Repairs etc. VERY early Celluloid.
Made in New York, USA. 1917 to early 1920s. What a beautiful pen this is. Like the finest Bohemia Art Glass. The closer you get to this pen the more amazing it actually is. RARE to find a pen that looks better the closer and closer you get. To x30 Loupe and y...our Jaw drops at how wonderfully complex the inner beauty of this masterpiece really is. My photograph close ups do not do it any justice. Has to be seen in person to fully appreciate. Simply stunning.! The inner spirals and swirls are UNIQUE. Only normally found in the highest quality hand made glass of this ERA. It would not surprise me if the New York factory indeed had employees from Prague or such like. Immigrants settling in 1917-1920s New York was COMMON. Bringing with them knowledge of such Glass making skills so that when the NEW celluloid which like Glass is Liquid yet still pliant when melted HOT it was only natural they treated it like glass. A LOST art form for sure. NEVER repeated in fountain pen manufacture history to my knowledge. It is so amazing that the 1st pens to be made in celluloid like this 192/94 are actually the most complex and sophisticated ever made.
This pen is so vibrant in colour it is amazing to think it could be 100 years old. These were one of the first pens EVER made in Celluloid. The New York factory made celluloid pens up to 5 years before the London factory. Very few of these were made. The Blue Celluloid has zero discolouration. Rare! Simply stunning colour. Ultra vibrant. Beautiful.
14C nib is fantastic to write with. Very smooth with zero paper scratch. Perfect for everyday use. Writes with a Fine to medium Fine line that has Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Very user friendly. This nib also has flexibility that allows for even more line width variation on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. The flex is also user friendly in that it is not Soft, Loose or Twitchy. Only flexes upon user command never by itself. Superb Nib. Fabulous pen.
