Rare 1940s Canadian MILITARY ROLEX Oyster RALEIGH watch ~Original BLACK Dial ~All Original This is a stunning and VERY RARE Swiss Made ROLEX Oyster "RALEIGH" Gentleman's w.watch in VERY NICE, All ORIGINAL Condition, made for the Canadian / Commonwealth market around the period of the Second World War (1939 – 1945). This fine example has a BEAUTIFUL 100% ORIGINAL classic BLACK DIAL and a gold-filled OYSTER CASE. It is running strongly and keeping good ti...me (but please, don’t expect quartz accuracy, the watch is over 70 years old). This smaller size watch is correctly signed by ROLEX on the dial (OYSTER), crown, case and the movement (under the dial) . Authenticity of this timepiece is guaranteed. ~ A series of these early models were made with different names including "Pioneer", "Sky Rocket", “Victory”, "Aqua", "Commander", " CENTREGRAPH ", ‘ROYALITE’, ‘Lipton’ and a few others. - All of these models are now quite rare ! - They look absolutely stunning ! - - - All of the watches in this model range are of a military design, but were sold also to the civilian market. Many Canadian and British Forces personnel during WW 2, particularly pilots, preferred a Rolex to a military issue watch, due to the robustness and dependability of Rolex watches ( the steel Oyster case back, still has the orig. lead gasket, shows the S/N and the Ref.Nr. outside + the military # V14595 and his initials ). - - - For those who may not be familiar with Rolex watches, the OYSTER name refers to the case, which was designed to be waterproof. The range was first introduced in 1927 and at the time, it was one of the most innovative and highly acclaimed developments in the functionality of the wristwatch. - - - The 2-piece heavy gold-filled CASE with round bezel ( approx. 29 mm x 34 mm ) of this watch for sale is in very good condition showing only very little wear . - The inside of the rear cover is marked "Oyster Watch Co", Geneva, Swiss . - There are only a few very light marks on the case, as you would expect from a watch of this age. The Rolex CROWN, which sits tightly, is correctly signed by ROLEX . - - - The stunning, RARE BLACK DIAL ~ in this case showing Minutes, Seconds and Hours division, is in Very GOOD - 100% ORIGINAL CONDITION; it is properly signed ( in gold writing ! ) OYSTER, RALEIGH and SWISS MADE at the very bottom ( these types of early dials were normally not signed Rolex, only OYSTER ). - The dial shows applied, gold color ORIGINAL 12 hour numbers and markers. The gold color, Original Hands are correct for this model. The Crystal is very clean with no scratches visible to the naked eye. - - - The manual wind 17 Rubies, SWISS MADE signed movement is running strongly and keeping good time. It is the rugged and very reliable Caliber 59 movement, which is signed "Rolex, Geneve" under the dial on the main plate ( see picture ). The movement has been well maintained over the years and has been given a full service a few years ago. S/N is 146xxx - Ref.# 3478 ( early 1940s approx. ). The watch is fitted with a new black leather watch strap. This is a highly collectable, rare watch of a type which seldom comes up for sale in this NICE ORIGINAL CONDITION. It will make a worthy addition to anyone's collection, as well as being a perfectly functional and very eye catching watch to wear. It is a nice, smaller size watch for men who don't want a bulky watch and for women who want a more substantial one than the typical petite ladies Rolex watches. ~ ~ Authenticity of this timepiece is guaranteed! ~ ~ NOTE: Vintage watches are commonly smaller than watches nowadays; to avoid inconvenience, please take a moment to examine the size and make sure it meets your expectations and wrist size.
