Vintage Gibson A-5 Mandolin Jethro Burns Model 1968 Tubby Tone!. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Very nice 1968 Gibson A-5. Fantastic old school tubby tone that oval holes are known for. Very good condition overall. It was recently set up and plays smoothly. The frets are worn on the first five frets as seen in photo, mainly the treble side, A E strings. Still playable though. Two tuning pegs have shrunken—the plastic from that era sometimes does that. They loo...k like they have been burned, but no, it’s just deterioration. These could be replaced easily. The peg head scroll was broken and repaired at some point—stable and well done. This is the most common issue with F-style pegheads. Other than that, just wear from being played for 50 years. Back of the neck near the nut has pretty heavy wear. Finish checking throughout, normal for age. I am guessing the tailpiece cover was replaced at some point, but because of the oxidation, I am guessing this was long ago. Top looks good with no cracks, maybe some settling, but no evidence of structural issues. Comes with original plush purple velvet lined case. Not sure if the case is a Gibson; unmarked aside from owner’s initials on the top. Please disregard the EBay auto details...it gives info for a new Gibson A style for some reason!
