In my over 4 decades of collecting presidential campaign memorabilia, I have collected items for JFK, FDR, T.R. and Truman as favorites. Truman items with great color and graphics and for special events are particularly desirable and I have owned a few of these great 3.5" inaugural buttons over the years but it is my first with a ribbon and in this case, the ribbon is for members of the Montgomery County Pennsylvania Marching Band. on the day of the inauguration, January 20th, 1949....>The original campaign/inaugural button, made and marked by the Philadelphia Badge Company is without doubt the best condition example of this beautifully designed button I have ever seen. Simply stunning! The celluloid is tight, bright and glossy with barely any noticeable wear in reflected light. Outstanding condition.
This button and ribbon would be a great centerpiece for any tray or collection of Truman buttons. 71 years old and like the day it was made! The ribbon has a bit of wear at the bottom to the blue ribbon and some very light wear to the gold lettering as shown in the photos. With the holidays coming, this would make a great gift to any collector or gift to self!
