This auction is for a really nice and somewhat hard to findMSA / Mine Safety Appliances TopTex 3BM flight helmet, this one is named to andidentified to a known US Air Force Pilot Officer. The helmet is all complete, excellent used condition, no chinstrap – they did not come with one – the oxygenmask acted as the chinstrap – comm cord and plug and wires are present and allintact, they show some age wear but they are still nice. Helmet has theoriginal nice white finish, it shows li...ght use and wear but it is really nice, not beat up, not all scuffed up, just nice and really clean. The liner is allintact, it appears to be a tan leather, I understand that the liners in thesewere custom fit to the owners head size and shape. Leather is not dry and feelsgood yet. Earphones are underneath and I guess as far as I know they are there!Hard to tell either way but no indication they were ever removed. Oxygen maskmounts are all intact and also really nice. The visor is all intact and inreally nice condition, also not beat up and not damaged, it moves up and downnicely. The original factory cloth visor cover is present too. Right beneaththe front of the visor is a small spot where you can see the owner’s name tagwas stuck on. I have the tag and it is pictured here. It was on the helmet whenI got it originally, but simply fell off, it will be easy enough to very simplyand quickly and easily reattach. All in all the helmet is really nice, reallyclean, and will display very nicely. With the helmet are a photo of the Colonelwho owned it, in front of his F86 Sabre jet and with his car, in uniform. Alsoincluded is a letter from the original finder to the person who I got thishelmet from, noting the pilot owner’s career details. His name was Colonel RoyCarr; the helmet came from his family originally, and that was who wrote theletter to the guy I got it from. Carr was a WW2 pilot and flew the P-40 andP-47, he also flew the F86 as shown, and the letter from the family notes thatcrashed a trainer and also an F100 Super Sabre. He apparently served around theworld. The last bit of this group, and not really photographed well, are twooriginal copies of Air Force Commendation Medal award citations for hisactions. They are not for combat but for merit elsewhere. They are original, not copies. There is a lot more great research potential to this helmet and AirForce pilot.
