Very nice find here in Washington, D.C. A Class 5 type President Appreciation Medal (according to Dr. Gomez study of these medals) and the only one issued personally for President John F. Kennedy for his overseas trips of 1962 and 1963. A paltry 300 medals (with presumed less than 75-100 still around as most were obviously given out and safely secured in collections of overseas VIPs from Europe, etc) were struck. Its a recognized rarity and highl...y sought after by JFK and Presidential medals collectors alike.
This medal was originally issued for the "White House Office", a Government agency in the Executive Branch, obtained and struck directly from the main U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. It was intended as a personal memento of Appreciation by President John F Kennedy and to be given individually by the President himself. This Official U.S. Mint Struck Presidential medal is well documented in many Kennedy Publications.
Size is about that of a standard US Silver dollar struck in Bronze and very pleasing and 100% all original as struck. As fine an example as you will see offered if ever offered for sale by another seller. I have also priced it very affordably.
The only other example I could find sold on ebay (and in my humble opinion not as nice as this example) at $7, 000.
it would make a nice high end gift for the advanced Kennedy or Presidential Medal collector. You rarely get a chance to buy one of these medals at anywhere near my asking price. Medal is also guaranteed 100% authentic forever with no time limits.
