CONDITION: EXCELLENT -- The prints in this series are clear, clean, bright. No foxing, tears or folds. A really fine image. Excellent definition. Nice clean, sharp lines, and wide margins.
This print is about 120 years old and guaranteed to be original. It is an authentic old illustration from the aforementioned book of sketches, and NOT A MODERN REPRODUCTION.
The visible part of the print, including the white border (if any) is about 7 1/2" x 10 1/4". Matted the print measures 11" x 14". This is a standard size matte that will fit into a standard size frame.ALL OF OUR MATTED PRINTS ARE WRAPPED IN A CLEAR CELLOPHANE ENVELOPE THAT PROTECTS THE PRINT DURING SHIPPING AND IS PERFECT FOR GIFT GIVING.

ABOUT EDWARD WINDSOR KEMBLE FromWikipedia (mostly)Kemble was born in Sacramento, California. In 1875 he wasenrolled at a boarding school in Philadelphia, which was a center of artisticactivity. His artistic talent was such that he was a successful contributor toperiodicals by 1881. He became the major political cartoonist for the NewYork Graphic while receiving his only formal artistic training atthe Art Students League of New York.When Life Magazine was founded in 1883, Kemblebecame a frequent contributor to its early issues. He was a staff politicalcartoonist for Collier’s from 1903 to 1907, for Harper’s Weekly from1907 to 1912 before returning to Collier's, and for Leslie’s Weekly and Judge inthe late 1910s.His lively cartoons, some of the magazine industry's mostmature work, attracted the attention of Mark Twain, who employed Kemble toillustrate Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Kemble subsequently illustratedseveral other famous books, including Twain's Puddin Head Wilson, HarrietBeecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Washington Irving’s Knickerbocker History of New York, and many of Joel Chandler Harris’ Uncle Remus stories.Kemble isbest remembered for his specialty, cartoons of African Americans. Hischaracterizations were often sympathetic. He took care to study the real urbanand rural environs and living conditions of African Americans, and producedmany sensitive, almost photographic portraits of them.Kemble lived in the Rochelle Park area ofsuburban New Rochelle. Kemble died in Ridgefield, Connecticut in 1933, aged 72.
