This is one of more than 100 carbon steel knives I have accumulated over the years because of the traditional construction and ease of ...sharpening. Many are from well known companies like Ontario Knife Company's "OLD HICKORY" line, ForgeCraft, and many others, some without markings or with the markings long gone or hard to see. They literally don't make 'em like this anymore. They require a little extra care, but will deliver many years of service if properly maintained. If you are one of those people who remembers drying your knives immediately after washing them to prevent rust - and they were dark anyway because that's what happens to carbon steel over time - you will have a chance to get some of these as I get them cleaned up and ready to list. This is a big, neat older butcher or carving knife that appears to be handmade. The blade may have come from a commercial saw - one of the most popular sources of material for home made knives - while the handle is two wood slabs that are held together with a pewter bolster and butt: makes it pretty heavy on the handle end. The front bolster has separated from the round "tabs" that anchored it in the middle of the handle and it does slide forward just a little bit, so there is a little up and down play. It has been used, cleaned, and sharpened, is somewhat sharp now. Blade has scratches from past cleaning, some patina. Like all wood handled knives, this should not be put into a dishwasher, and should be dried after use. A couple of drops of food grade mineral oil, available in the pharmacy section very inexpensively, will keep it looking like it does now. No maker's markings or name that I can see. See pictures.
