This outstanding, English, Arts & Crafts necklace is mounted on sterling silver with carnelian agates. It is by the famous British maker, Bernard Instone (1891-1987). However like many of his items it is unsigned but tests as sterling silver. His work is increasingly valued and collected. I believe this necklace was made in the early 1930’s. The necklace measures 17 and 1/8” (44cms) long and the central drop is 7/8” (2.2cms) long and ¾” (2cms) across the silver top. The ne...cklace weighs 19.5 grams. The necklace is mounted on a strong, decorative, flat chain with a ring clasp. The superb central section features graduated, oval carnelian stones with a decorative silver top. These beautifully matched stones are a shiny and translucent burnt orange. Each is is enhanced by elegant, silver engraved leaves and a little flower . These signature elements are absolutely typical of Instone’s work. Between them are pretty flowers with spiky petals. The back is neatly finished and all the carnelians are open backed for natural light reflection. The most beautiful contrast of colours makes this necklace extra special and is sure to please. It is in excellent vintage condition and comes to you carefully presented in a gift box.
