I believe this lens came from a Newman Sinclair 35mm Movie Camera, a camera made notorious by Stanley Kubrick. ( I have a mounting plate and collimating spacer from its original mount )
Min focus is stated at 3 feet on the barrel, in this case the lens does have smooth helical focus and smooth iris as it should. Iris blades are dry and clean, I see no obvious signs of fungus or balsaming. I would ...say this lens displays the warm characteristics I have seen on my super Baltar set, but that is subjective in that I cannot mount the lens and shoot a test chart.
The outer front ring bears the mark of Taylor, Taylor and Hobson made in England in tiny engraved letters.Note I have tried to render the front and back elements, they exhibit no unusual cleaning marks or aberrations. Very good condition for this age. Serial no. 532775,
The 50mm is one of the Cooke Vintage lenses targeted for adaptation for full frame/PL mounts/re-housing or use as a digital stills lens. The back barrel measures 48mm in diameter with a small recess and mounting screws that were used for its previous camera plate and at that size seems like a great candidate for PL conversion.
Known for beautiful rendering of skin tones, and a large optical circle that displays unique Bokeh. This is a pedigree that carried forward thourghout the Cooke 35mm primes.
I have had inquiries specifically about adapting this lens for digital stills or full frame 35mm.. It is a Cine lens so the resolution is great, but I cannot offer any guarantee about modifications or adaptations. Please read the description and make sure this is the right lens for you. There are some interesting re-housed examples on YouTube including footage.
A great example of this series of lens and fast at F 2.0 with great Bokeh.
