I'm selling my vintage Maxson/Tri-tronics/Peer Department of Commerce/Civil Aeronautics Varimu Compressor/Limiter. These are vintage broadcast limiters with top shelf components and military build quality. They have a very unique sound and are often used on vocals or drums for parallel compression or to impart a really cool vintage sound that has a sweet balance of tube compression with a bit of tube distortion at higher gain settings.
There's a fair bit of information availabl...e about these online including some recommended mods by Doug Williams. This unit has been recently refurbished including upgraded signal capacitors that gently improve the frequency response and the addition of a grounded power cable. Any underperforming tubes have also been changed out. An adjustable attack control has also been added per Doug's recommendations. Check out the picture of the internals for these improvements. XLR input and output pigtails are included.
This unit is serial #832. I have a 2nd unit (#536) that has been serviced with all the same upgrades if anyone is looking for a nearly matched pair.
