Original Description:
Up for sale is a Very Rare Vintage 1991 OUTBOUND 2030 Notebook System Macintosh Laptop. First off, if you're looking at this and not pumped up at the prospect of getting a piece of history, then you probably should move to another listing.  This is about as unique and rare as it gets.  I couldn't find another one listed or for sale online.  I'm sure, if you're reading this listing, than you probably know even more than me, about this item.  From what I've found... online about it, it was produced only from 1991 to 1992 and was licensed by Macintosh.  I'll copy and paste some of the information I found below.  So, i'm including a juice power charger brick with this, as there isn't an original charger.  The juice charger will come with additional ports, in case you want to use it on anything else, as well.  To my surprise this thing fired right up, like it should.  All you had to do was plug it in and hit the escape button.  I'll be honest the screen is kind of hard to see in person, like there is something going on with the LCD, but considering it's from 1991, that could have just been the quality on it, at that time.  I'm not sure, but keep that in mind.  Finding one of these would be hard enough, but one that actually turns on, is pretty awesome.  The notebook itself, seems to have very little wear and to me looks like it hasn't really been messed with, but I have no way to tell.  I couldn't really find any instructions, videos, etc. on it, so I only did very basic testing, since I have no clue how to use it.  I just moved the arrows and pressed some buttons.  It all seemed to work well, but don't assume this is fully functional, since i'm not any kind of expert.  I'm hoping to pass this on to a collector, or someone who likes to fix them up.  I'd prefer if you're looking for mint, or having really high expectations, to just avoid this listing.  I'd rather this just go to someone who can appreciate it, without any hassle. This is an as-is listing.  I took pictures of the side panels and opened them up, to show you what was in there, but that seems to be the only thing easy to open on this thing.  It's definitely got some weight to it, but really isn't that big, considering how old it is.  There isn't much else to say on this one.  The auction will be for the notebook and the charger and  that's it.  Happy bidding!  Take a good look at the pictures and see what you think.  I'm pricing this low and paying for the shipping, which will be more with the increases.  I may ship with FedEx or UPS, depending on the buyer's location.  I ship within 24 hours of receiving payment.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask before buying.
Perhaps the best known early portable Mac clone came from Outbound systems. It was announced in August 1989, just weeks before Apple unveiled the Macintosh Portable. The Outbound Portable Plus uses the same 68000 CPU as the Plus and SE, but runs it nearly twice as fast at 15 MHz. It has a unique built-in pointing device, the Isopoint Trackbar, that rolls to scroll up and down – and moves sideways to scroll right and left. The Trackbar is part of the detachable keyboard. The Outbound requires ROMs transplanted from a Mac Plus or SE.To use your desktop computer, you can attach the Outbound to your Mac, giving it access to the pulled ROMs. To attach a SCSI device, you had to buy a $95 adapter.Still, at $3, 995 with a 20 MB hard drive and a 10 pound weight, it was an attractive alternative even after Apple’s $6, 500 Mac Portable shipped.Apple and Outbound came to an agreement in 1990 where Apple purchased the technology from Outbound, which in turn licensed the technology from Apple so it could continue to produce it portable computers. This gave Mac users an authorized alternative to the 16 lb. Mac Portable until the PowerBook line launched in October 1991.In December 1991, Outbound released a modular notebook computer. This model uses faster CPUs (from 20 MHz 68000 to 40 MHz 68030), supports 2-4 MB of RAM, has a backlit display, supports 20-120 MB IDE hard drives, works with high density floppy diskettes, and runs off a standard camcorder battery.
The Outbound Notebook 2030 features a 20 MHz 68030 processor, 2 MB or 4 MB of RAM, and a 40 MB, 80 MB, or 120 MB hard drive in a white, compact case with a 10" monochrome "Supertwist" LCD screen. For cursor control, the Outbound series uses a "TrackBar, " which slides left-to-right and rolls up and down, with buttons on both sides. Unlike the Apple Portable, the Outbound series have "swappable" hard drives and standard SIMM slots used in desktop machines.
