This rarely seen vintageElectra appears to be in near NOS condition as it shows negligible signs ofwear. It's possible that it has never been worn with any wear seen likely being the result of storage and handling over the past several decades. It has a matte black dial that shows light age-related spotting andthe original lume, which emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to brightlight, has aged gracefully. The black fat font bezel, which rotatesa bit sti...ffly bidirectionally, presents beautifully. The heavy duty allstainless steel case shows negligible wear. The outside of thecase back is stamped "AUTOMATIC" followed by "ETANCHE, ""CONTROLEE"and "1717." The crystal shows very light wear. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches that I put up forsale the case back on this one is torqued to what feels like factory specs andis too tight for me to remove. Based on several other identical examplesthat I've owned over the years the movement is very likely an ETA 2472automatic with quickset date function. It runs strong, keeps accuratetime and the roulette date wheel (even red, odd black) rolls over at 12 am. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new dateand then repeatedly moving the hour hand between the 20.5 and 24 hour marksuntil the desired date has been reached. After winding thesharply threaded, non-screw down crown 39 full revolution the movement had animpressive power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The crownwinds smoothly. Given that this watch is more than 40 years oldand considering that the movement has likely never been serviced a completeoverhaul is recommended.
This watch measures approximately 39 mm excluding the crown, approximately 41mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Casethickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measuresapproximately 11 mm.
Given the vintage nature of this watch and considering that the movement haslikely never been serviced a complete overhaul is recommended. As suchthere are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of thiswatch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is thatold-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrongfrom time to time. Any servicing costs are your responsibility.
