SCARCE LAURIDS LONBORG (DENMARK) MID-20TH CENTURY VINTAGE SIGNED CARVED & LATHE-TURNED TEAK & BIRCH FIGURATIVE WOODEN OWL, STYLIZED MODERNIST SCULPTURE, with BLACK BEADED EYES & TWO-TONE SOLID WOOD COLOR, FEATURING OLD-GROWTH TEAK TROPICAL HARDWOOD[Stamped with branded maker's mark on base](Circa 1954-1966)Mid-20th century Danish lathe-turned & carved figurative teak wooden sculpture of fauna DIMENSIONS: 5" Height x 3 1⁄2" Width Weight: 11.6 oz.<...br>DESCRIPTION:Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely magnificent, mid-20th century, Laurids Lonborg vintage lathe-turned teak body and either maple or birch hardwood eye sockets, ears and nose, highly stylized Modernist wooden owl, carved figure. It features black beaded eyes and a soft, bulbous teak body. The eye sockets, ears and nose are routered and inserted into drilled out recesses in the teak body and affixed with adhesive glue. The birch or maple hardwood eye sockets have a concave profile and an interior round darker wood, perhaps walnut, upon which the black beaded eyes sit. The birch or maple nose and ears are carved out on their lower forms. Only the left ear has some very minor abrasions to the extreme edges of its surfaces. This amounts to the only and very minimal damage found on the entire form. Considering the piece is now some 54 to 66 years old and subject to being perhaps repeatedly handled over the years, it would have to be considered to still be in extraordinary, very well-preserved vintage condition. Absolutely magnificent. For those of you who love owls, and you know who you are, this extraordinary lathe-turned and carved mid-20th century, Laurids Lonborg vintage wooden figure of an owl, is evidence of why so many people gravitate toward and admire this mysterious, enigmatic, winged nocturnal hunter.
