McINTOSH MR71 tube FM Stereo Tuner
With original owners manual, service manual, and replacement modern McIntosh MR71 tuner box.THIS TUNER IS AS CLOSE TO NEW CONDITION YOU WILL EVER FIND!
THE CHROME IS INCREDIBLE!!
On a scale from 1-10, I rate the chrome condition 9.5!!
the one small flaw, is around the fuse holder, with the rubber gasket around the fuse holder craating a little bit of corrosion from the rubber gasket.
Even the connectors on the back look super clean.
...I don't even see any marks on the RCA jacks from them being connected to.
It makes me wonder if this tuner was ever used at all???Late production, serial# 81B29.
Aproximately April, 1968 year production!, near the end of MR71 production period.Beautiful cosmetic condition!
This tuner never saw outside the house.
always kept indoors in a smoke free, pet free, dry environment.

This is the third tuner from his home.Has been stored in a box most of its time, hardly used!!
There's also 2 other MR71 tuners, in my other ebay listings!All tubes look to be factory original. most tubes say McIntosh, except one tube is a Telefunken 12AT7, and the other is a Mullard 12AU7 tube.
All of the original tubes lettering on the tubes look very nice, not smeared.After getting the tuner home, and unpacking it, I used a variac to slow power up the tuner, and brought up the AC voltage very slowly, increasing the voltage 10 volts every one hour, till I got to 120 volts, and then let the tuner stay powered up all evening.
All filaments light up, all lamps on faceplate light up, including the stereo light works, when tuning into radio stations, with an antenna wire connected to the antenna terminal.The faceplate silk screen looks good.
the faceplate controls rotate smoothly, the tuning dial rotates smoothly from full left to full right of the tuning scale.
But the tuning dial shaft might need a light spray of silicone spray, to help free it up, because it turns a little stiff, from not being used much, or used at all.
the pan-loc buttons push in/out ok.
all the lettering on the faceplate look to be all there, with none of the letters rubbed off.
all the numbers and letters on the dial glass are all there, and no signs of dust behind the glass area of the faceplate.
The chrome looks fantastic, and no noticable streak marks, and NO pitting on the chrome anywhere!
The photos just cannot capture of how gorgeous the chrome mirror reflection is on this tuner!!

the only one common flaw, that is common with most McIntosh tuners, is the rubber gasket around the fuse holder on the back, leaves a corrosion spot around the fuse holder, due to the rubber gasket aging over the years, is common. see photo on rear panel.and underneath, inside the tuner, all factory original, no parts changed, and power supply voltages check ok to factory specs! Amazing for it's age, that the stock filter capacitors charged up ok, after so many decades of non use!I do not want to change any capacitors that is not neccessary, that does not affect the power up, and DC voltages.
But, if you plan on using the tuner, I highly recommend new filter capacitors, and also replacing any small electrolytic caps anywhere else.The parts that I recommend replacing, is the 1 chassis mount quad electrolytic capacitor, and the two axial lead type capacitors in the power supply area, because of their age, and for reliability and performance.maybe replacing the selenium rectifier with a silicone rectifier, might also be a good thing to do also, as they weaken over time, from charging the filter caps at power up.
The other improvements, could be replacing the two electrolytic capacitors in the audio output section on the two 6BL8 tubes.
but I will leave that up to you to take care of.Being that the tuner is a vintage item, there is no warranty for any electronic defects, once the tuner is in your possession.
The tuner was only tested for visual operation only.
No audio tests were done.
I will not say that the tuner has audio output from the RCA jacks, audio quality, stereo quality, RF reception quality, because my proof of the item conditions are only proven visually, not audibly.
Therefore, the tuner is for sale as-is, as seen in the photos in this ebay listing.The tuner will be extremely well packed, with 2 inch thick soft foams all around, on all sides, and it will be packed so it's drop protected for shipping.
Ship via Fedex for dependable service.
USPS Priority Mail is air shipping most of the way, and might be a better choice for cross country shipping.
