The Technics SL-7 is a fully automatic, direct drive, linear tracking turntable introduced in 1980. This one is excellent to near mint cosmetically and operates flawlessly. The SL-7 was made in Japan. It operates at 120VAC, the standard voltage for North America, but is also selectable for 220-240V. This one has been meticulously disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, calibrated and adjusted for excellent performance. It has been played at least 20 hours since restoration over a period of ...several months.

The Technics SL-7 is an evolution and variant on the iconic SL-10. It features excellent visibility of the playing record and a more sophisticated tonearm servo control. It will look and sound fantastical in any high end setup, vintage or modern. The overall width and length match the size of a standard record jacket, which is truly amazing. It is a very easy turntable to use and to own, takes up little space, and looks great. It is a very solid turntable with excellent build quality, weighing 15 lbs. The chassis is metal, the aluminum platter is heavy and the tonearm is smooth and well damped for excellent audio performance.
All the mechanical and electrical calibrations on pages 11-14 of the service manual have been performed, including the critical servo gain and offset adjustments. The linear tracking tonearm floats on it's bearings just like a standard pivoted tonearm; however, when there is a small tracking angle, the carriage moves slightly to correct the angle. When the table is correctly calibrated, the carriage makes small frequent corrections which maintains the tracking error at a negligible amount and eliminates noise the that can be induced from large infrequent movements of the carriage.
Cosmetics:- The control panel and other bright work is near mint- The paint on the case has a few minor blemishes on the top rear, the sides and front are near mint.- The interior of the unit and tonearm are near mint, if not mint.- The clear cover has been polished, clarity is excellent, no cracks. - The molded cover catches are unbroken and intact.- The Platter is near mint- The Platter mat is in mint condition and flexible- The feet are are original, in excellent condition and retain their flexibility for good isolation.- Fully detailed inside and out- From a non-smoking environment
Function:- The tonearm carriage was cleaned, and lighty lubricated.- The tonearm motor and worm drive were cleaned and lubricated with Molykote 55.- The cueing mechanism was cleaned and lubricated for smooth performance.- The control buttons were disassembled and cleaned for excellent feel and performance.- Motor spindle was disassembled, cleaned and lubricated with SAE20 silicone oil.- Full mechanical and electrical calibration in accordance with the Technics service manual.- The strobe LED is clear and bright and steady at speed.- The power supply electrolytic capacitors were replaced with high quality Nichicon caps for reliability.- A NOS Audio Technica SS335E/U has been fitted The SS335E/U is identical to the AT112. The cartridge box and stylus protector are included.
