Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:5125197 |
Handmade wooden Camel bell, approximately 8 inches wide. This one has metal plates at each end. Holes were drilled in the side for the neck cord. The two wooden clappers are attached through holes in the top.
In the deserts of the Horn of Africa, Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia,
camels are a valuable animal for the nomads; the lead camels
are always known to have a large wooden bell around their neck with a rope.
After b...eing out for many days at a time, the herd smells water in the
distance and will start running with their bell clappers ringing.
These were gifts given while traveling to rural areas of Somalia
and Ethiopia. Travel was on dirt roads among the camel herds.
