ESL Mono Phonograph Cartridge - Electro-Sonic Laboratories ESL C-60.. Condition is "For parts or not working". Shipped with USPS First Class. I inherited this cartridge; it was mounted in a Rek-O-Kit PS20 head that I’m selling separately. The cartridge was retired in the late 50’s when stereo came in, but was too pretty to toss out. Along the way, the stylus lost its diamond point, so I cannot test the cartridge. My identification as a C-60 is based on web searches. One document in...dicated that stylus replacement was not DIY; the company did replacements for $20. Some references indicate this to be a relabeled Ortofon cartridge. I emailed Ortofon for information and received a prompt reply indicating it was not their cartridge and that they could not support it, but noted it “probably was manufactured along BtoB program for our then-US-partner, who had taken over all technical support....” Further, “it looks like a vintage SPU MONO model.” I looked online and found new Ortofon SPU Mono GM Mk II cost about $1000! I do not know if this ESL cartridge would work if it was given a new stylus, or even if such a stylus is available. This cartridge might be a good buy for the person with the knowledge and equipment to take on the task. I ain’t that guy.
