Offered for sale is a pair of Wharfedale W20D bookshelf speakers. Introduced in 1968 having an MSRP of $106. Specifications: 8" cone woofer; 3" dome tweeter; Frequency response - 40 Hz to 20, 000 Hz; Rating - 4 to 8 ohms; Finish - walnut grained vinyl veneer; Dimensions - 9 3/4" X 14 3/16" X 8 2/3".When I first acquired these speakers they only had the crossovers in them, no drivers. Purchased them from a local seller who was also selling the drivers for parts or repair, none of them w...orked. The vinyl veneer was peeling and in sad shape. The original grills were stained and the badges were pitted and unreadable.I had a real nice pair of CTS 8" woofers that had cloth surrounds and were in excellent like new condition. I installed them with no cabinet modifications other than drilling new holes for the mounting screws. I also had a nice pair of new dome tweeters that I installed. When I played them I got very little high frequencies and the high frequency level controls did not work. Turns out the 8 uf capacitors in the crossovers both measured about 470 pf (about 0.0005 uf). I had some 2.7 uf crossover capacitors and I wired three in parallel, tested them and they read 8.6 uf. Installed them in each crossover and now these speakers sounded absolutely incredible. Couldn't believe I was getting such great sound out of such a small speaker. I compared them to some 10" three way speakers I have and the Wharfedale's actually sounded better.They both measure 4.6 ohms on my multi meter.I peeled all the old vinyl veneer from the cabinets and applied some real oak veneer. I stained them with some dark expresso stain and they look great. Removed the old speaker badges and grill cloth and installed new gold 100% lines gold grill cloth. Purchased some Wharfedale speaker badges and applied them. The large black and gold badges are complimented nicely with the new gold grill cloth. I've sold dozens of pairs of 8" speakers on eBay in the last six years and never had a pair that sounded this good. The bass is remarkable. The high frequencies are there and sound perfect, female vocalists and cymbals sound amazing. The high level frequency controls work perfectly. BEING OFFERED WITH AN UNCONDITIONAL 30 DAY WARRANTY.
