LOT DETAILSThis auction is for a groupof 3 Western Electric 216-A vacuum tubes.According to theinformation I can find, the 216-A is essentially the same electrically as the101D, except that the normal filament voltage is 5-6 volts (as opposed to 4.5Vfor the 101D).Per the results below, Tube#1 appears to be a very nice tube. Unfortunately, while tube#2 appears to be reasonably within spec, it also appears to be gassy (which iscommon for 216-A). While tube #3 has continuity, I cannot get any readings and it appears to be a display tube. Tubes #2 and #3, therefore, are providedSOLELY as an extra.I first tested these tubeson a Westmore 501 (gov’t version of Triplett 3444) connected to a regulatedpower supply. The Westmore 501 does nothave settings for 216-A or 101D, so they were created from the WE datasheets. The test conditions were 5Vfilament voltage, 100V plate and -5V grid. I am not sure what “transconductance” (Gm) is under these conditions, but the tube curves show that plate current should be about 6 mA. The result is as follows:Tube #1 1200 µmhos, 6 mA plate currentTube #2 Not tested for Gm (gassy glow), 7 mAplate currentTube #3 Filament barely lit (and unevenly), notest results obtainableTube #1 showed virtually nogrid emission (no gas), while tube #2 did show a good amount of grid emission(gassy). Again, no reading wasobtainable for tube #3.I also tested these tubes on a Hickok 752A using the 101Dsettings but upping the filament voltage one notch (5V). On the 752A, the min. value is 350.Tube #1 tested at a very nice 750.Tube #2 again showed the nice gassy glow, so was not testedfurther.The filament again lit up lightly and unevenly on Tube #3, but no test results were obtainable.Theresults are extremely consistent between two very different testers.Pleasetake all of this information into account when bidding.
