Greetings radio enthusiasts and collectors! Looking for a nice little pocket AM/FM radio? If so, please take a few moments to check out this nice clean and working example of Radio Shack’s 12-467. This attractive little radio is a relatively recent model in which its designers exploited state-of-the art technology to build a quality lightweight AM/FM Radio that will fit in any pocket. Operat...ion is straightforward. The On/Off/Vol wheel and a 1/8” Headphone jack are on the left side. The Tuning wheel and AM/FM switch are on the right side. Inside the radio is a sturdy circuit board with a very low part count, which simplifies construction and improves reliability. At the heart of the design is a 28-pin surface mount IC that contains the majority of the circuitry required for respectable AM (530-1700 KHz) and FM (88-108 MHz) reception. With just a handful of additional discreet components, such as a variable capacitor, tunable inductors, ceramic IF filters, this radio is capable of remarkably good sensitivity, and selectivity. Still, it remains lightweight and operable on 4.5 volts from 3 x AA batteries. For ease of keeping the radio by your side, there is a handy braided nylon wrist strap and lanyard attached to the upper left hand corner.
This Radio Shack pocket radio is in excellent condition, and it plays well with decisive reception and crisp audio on both AM and FM. All controls operate smoothly. This neat little radio would make a convenient companion for listening anywhere, or display in your collection of transistor radios. (We are still in the habit of referring to tiny radios as “Transistor Radios” to delineate them by size.) Contrary to the prevailing pop culture notion, it is not necessary to have a smart phone to listen to your favorite local AM and FM radio stations in your backyard. That’s what pocket radios are for.
