A very fine and rare late Victorian sterling silver Armada jug.The form is quite rare.An identical ewer illustrated in Waldron page 346.
This Armada jug was presented by the Canadian Naval Service to Admiral Sir Charles Kingsmill, head ofthe Canadian Navy, for years of service.
Slender bottle form profusely decorated with flanking mermaid and merman, garden urnswirling foliage... and Bacchus masks.A leopard's head spring forth from center.Bell flower panel, rolled vine and shell, shield below spout never monogrammed.Original chased pomegranate finial, cover opens with pistol grip mechanism, I believe unique to this form.
In very fine condition.
Rich sterling patina, retains original detail.Pistol grip handle in fine order, original stops.Buyers must obey state law on purchase of items with bit of materialfrom endangered species.
