Vintage (c.1960) pair of meticulously carved wood figuresdepicting village life in Africa. Thefirst carving depicts two men playing checkers. The second carving is of a seated woman holding a bunch of bananas overher shoulder with a servant holding her umbrella (carvings of women were lesscommon). The detail of the carving is extremelygood and the natural wood grain adds texture to the unstained areas and createsan artistic contrast between light, dark, texture a...nd design. The first figure (checkers) measures 3-1/2” x 1-3-/4” and3-1/4” tall and is in excellent condition. The second figure (woman with umbrella) measures 2-3/4” x 1-5/8” and4-3/8” tall and is missing the right arm of the servant. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
