This is a rare find, an early stove lifter, used to remove the stove lids from the old cast iron wood & coal burning stoves & ranges. This 1 has a wooden handle with stenciled word advertising for B.H. Hershey's Coal, of Manheim, Pa. The lifter was an advertising item, made by the W.O. Stead Co. of Phila. they made advertising items for all kinds of products. they made this p...articular stove lifter for retail dealers, to use for advertising what they sold. This one, made for B. H. Hershey of Manhiem, advertised his coal. When the delivery man would bring a load of coal to your home, he'd give you a free lifter for your kitchen or parlor coal or wood stove. This a great addition to the kitchen gadget collection
