Amazing Handmade Dolls with original clothing. Vintage from the 1980s. Both have their numbers in their series inked on their bodies as well as their name. “Joshua” Limited Edition #809 out of 4000“Jessie” Limited Edition # 990 out of 4000Dolls are also marked on the back of their necks (see photos) with their number and copyright symbol as well as MA for “Maynard Arnett”, the artist.(See photos). Weighted Bodies so they can be positioned and moved. Limbs and bodies are pel...let filled to give them weight. Arms from wrist up are stuffed, Legs from calves up are stuffed, body is stuffed. These dolls are intentionally made to look primitive so it is hard to identify what might be signs of age/use and what is original to the doll. Clothes are intentionally "tea stained" to give an authentic vintage feel. Both dolls are in great vintage condition, bodies are very clean with no signs of wear or damage, However, there is some very minimal wear to the paint on their faces.MATERIALS: Cotton, Wood, Resin, PelletsADDITIONAL information: Maynard Arnett was a master woodcarver who lived in Arkansas in the 20th century. One of his most popular works is the Farm Kids series of dolls, which features African American children from the 1900s to 1920s time period. He would carve the original dolls in wood and then a limited edition run of reproductions done in resin would be made from that original. These reproduction dolls are HIGHLY collectible and very appealing. They are stuffed and weighted and their clothes are "faux-aged" with various techniques such as dyeing the fabrics with tea to give them a stained, weathered look like a well-loved doll from 100 years ago. The Farm Kids dolls are nostalgic but since they were created decades after the time period they depict, they do not fall into the pitfalls of either racism or over-sentimentality common to the past.
