J. C. Deagan four-note dinner chime. From early 20th century (1920s?). Dark brown paint. Includes mallet. Made in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. I'm not sure where this set was used, but my research says they were used on railroads, in early broadcasting, etc. It was meant to hang on a wall with two tabs on the back. It has been in my family for a very long time. I remember playing on it as a kid, thinking it was a child-sized xylophone! Dimensions: 12.25 inches x 8 inches.
CONDITION...: Please see all photos. Scratched paint. Shows some wear. Sleeves on bar posts are deteriorating (some kind of old rubber?) and many are missing. Felt under tops of posts is intact, don't see any dents, cord under bars is in great shape. I believe it is all original, no repairs. Felt on mallet shows wear and is somewhat loose. I can't guarantee the mallet is original to the chime, but it is old and the worn paint looks like it matched. Overall very good condition considering the age and use of this piece. Sounds good.
Expect it to look, smell, and perform like the vintage/antique item that it is.
