The Apex Standard Mine was first claimed in 1917 following the discovery of the rich ores of the Tintic Standard Mine, and from 1918 to 1919 the shaft was sunk to 900 feet on the property. In 1923, the Apex Standard No. 2 shaft was initiated by the Chief Consolidated Mining Company and sunk to a depth of 1, 150 feet, and mining of siliceous-barite gold ores persisted until 1936, at which point the mine was idled. The ore body had a maximum width of approximately 50 feet, and a maximum thickness of 12 feet, and consisted of pyrite, enargite, galena, argentite, and hessite.
