2000 Colnago C-40, Team Mapei Model 58cm size frame (with a 56.3cm effective top tube) crank center to top of frame-below the seat clamp & (55.6cm center to center top tube) Pre B-Stay model that Colnago built the C-40 reputation on!(This model is stiffer that the shorter luged B-Stay versions, which the Pro Teams complained had become more flexy. This 2000 COLNAGO C-40 is a rare special paint ($600 upgrade) Team Mapei Model, with top of the line full carbon 350 gram Star fork. Except for the seat I bought all of these components new, and so I know they only have THE BIKE RIDES, SHIFTS AND BRAKES LIKE NEW!I have owned many C-40's, Serotta Ti Legonds, Calfee, Trek OCLV's, but once you ride a C-40 you will become a believer that there is nothing like one... Why? Many reasons;1) The special shaped tubes provide extra torsional rigidity, yet vertical compliance.2) Over sized lugs provide extra stiffness, and superior vibration deadening. The reasons are the almost unknown; the secret to why Colnago keeps the oversized lugs and maintains the springy magical ride to that no other frame comes even close to are Explanation Below:The concept is demonstrated by ringing an old dinner trangle tuning fork. When it is struck, it vibrates for quite some time because tubing is the same diameter and has nothing interrupting the frequency, it keep's resonating for several seconds. Most bike frames the triangles are built without lugs and transfer vibration after hitting a bump for a longer period of time. Add a little material on the corners and any vibration from an impact is deadened in a fraction of the time because the frequency is altered from change in diameter, which keeps your bike frame from having the shock continue to resonate threw the frame. Sorry that this fly’s in the face of all of the geniuses that want to believe that Coinage’s are overpriced and obsolete! If you don't believe me hit the link and read 14 reviews, most of who are amazed of the ride and quality design and finish.3) Unique geometry: Developed in the Pro Peloton by Mapie/Quickstep, Rabobank, and many other Pro Teams; Basically a little less steep head angle yet very short chain stays, provides relaxed yet deliberate steering which carves corners with the best of them due to the short wheelbase. The only MFG that has of similar geometry that I know of is an Eddy Merckx.4) Build Quality: Early C40's were designed and prototypes made in the Ferrari Factory, using carbon fiber supplied by ATR (suppler for Ducati, Ferrari Formula 1 Team, Military etc...). The paintwork is not only represents a work of art, but is extremely durable.
