The design is the older, simple onecolor ACL st...yle with a simple yellow label at the bottom. 4” square. A niceretro classic look. This cool vintage ashtray is likely from around the early 50speriod. Possibly 1949. It has the early 4 digit phone number which was phasedout in the early 1950s and an early microphone, surrounded by radio signal lightningbolts. The whole design screams late 1940s to early 1950s.There’s a great old microphone in the center. Looks like an old RCA77 or a similar 1940’s ribbon style radio mic. Pretty cool. The old microphonehas the MBS logo on it for the Mutual Broadcasting System. In the golden age ofU.S. radio, Mutual was best known as the original network home of The LoneRanger and The Adventures of Superman and as the long-time radio residence ofThe Shadow. In 1957, MBS changed drastically and dropped many radio stations.That puts the age of this ashtray somewhere between 1949 and 1957, but Isuspect more towards the early 1950s. This retro vintage ash tray is in great condition with some lightwear to the glass. The label is in fine condition but the old glass has somemanufacturing ‘swirls’ and ‘waves’ to it, making it look like the label isdamaged or rippled. The ACL label is fine, as you can see from the back sidephoto. It’s the angle of the photos and the ‘waviness’ of the glass that givesthe label an odd appearance in my photos. The ashtray looks better in real lifethan it does in the photos. Sorry.It has a strong bold yellow design and no chips, cracks or roughedges. For some reason, as a record collector, it reminds me of the old ‘Sun’records label, which was starting out in Memphis about the same time this ashtraywas made. Probably because WHVR was a Country music station at some point inits long history. It could use a good cleaning, but I’ll let the winning bidderdo that as I didn’t want to damage the label. I tried to give pictures fromseveral angles and with several backgrounds. You’ll love it!This ashtray would be of interest to Radio folks, Microphone folks, Advertising collectors and obviously York Pennsylvania collectors. A greatlooking ash tray. I could see somebody using this to keep loose small ‘parts’in while working on old radio, microphone or electronic equipment. Or, use itas it was designed.~~~This is a cool old vintage WHVR radio advertising ashtray from theearly 1950s. Quite rare.WHVR started operating, like many stations, after radio wasderegulated at the end of World War II. It first went on the air in January1949 on 1280 KC and had an initial power of 1, 000 Watts. This was when radiostations used KC or KHz designations, way before the ‘AM’ term was used.Its offices and studio were in the Hanover Trust Bank building. Aswas common in those days, it was on the air from local sunrise to sunset. WHVRwas a pioneer in using remote radio hookups to send signals back to the radiostation in the days when phone line connections were scarce.WHVR (1280 KHz) is still a popular commercial AM radio station in Hanover, Pennsylvania, serving the York, PA radio market. It currently plays AdultContemporary music and hosts the local Baltimore Orioles Baseball games.
