Thisis a rare chance to own a piece of early NASA history! This is aspace-flown piece of the ablator (heat shield) from after the firstflight of the Block 1 Command/Service Module, launched by the Saturn1B rocket on February 26, 1966. The cross-section piece of heatshield inside reveals the effects of extreme heat from reentry and issealed in clear Lucite or acrylic in the shape of the Command/ServiceModule it came from. Inside is a label reading “APOLLO S/C 009Ablator 18, 000 mph Re...entry 26 Feb 66.” The front of the acrylichas two cast dimples that are original to its design and manufacture.Theacrylic measures 3” tall by 3 1/2” wide by 1 3/4” thick.CONDITION:Some surface wear to the acrylic with some little chips at the tip aspictured.
