From Google...."There have been several crowns. There are a few ways to tell them apart. The 1944 crown was marked sterling as well as Trifari. The 1951 Coronation Crown is marked only Trifari with no sterling mark. It has a bright and smooth gold finish. Trifari did not use a textured back until 1960-1961 and only sometimes then. The texturing was very fine and matte finished. This heavy texturing with shiny finish is not common until the 1970's onward. The crown pins do fairly well, even the non-sterling. "
