Rare Set of 16 Russian USSR Paper Mache Dolls New Year's Tree Toys This is an incredibly rare and beautiful set of 16 Russian/Soviet Union regional paper mache accented, hand painted wood dolls -they are probably from the 40's or 50's.It can be hard to find these dolls on an individual basis, yet alone find such a large group in such good condition.They are beautifully hand painted and detailed, and on the base of each figure a paper label is glued with the ...region/republic the doll represents hand written in the Cyrillic alphabet.They each measure approximately 3 1/2" tall.These are considered New Year's Tree toys as decorating a New Year's Day tree was the tradition versus having a Christmas tree every year.The dolls are in nice condition and each has it's own hand created unique look and design. *There are a couple with a little paint off, a couple need new paper veils, but overall- they are very nice.
